Pharmacology of Cipro-A Vet

Indications

Cipro-A Vet is effective for a variety of infections. It treats respiratory infections in livestock and poultry, urinary tract infections in dogs, and gastrointestinal infections in poultry. Additionally, it can manage skin and soft tissue infections in cats and dogs. Furthermore, Cipro-A Vet is used for secondary bacterial infections following viral diseases like Gumboro and Newcastle disease in poultry.

Dosage & Administration For Cipro-A Vet

Bolus (For Oral Administration):

• Livestock: Administer one bolus per 75-150 kg body weight twice daily for 3-5 days to treat common infections like pneumonia.
• Poultry: To treat colibacillosis, salmonellosis, and pasteurellosis, add one bolus per 15-20 litres of water for 3-5 days.
• Fish: To treat Aeromonas and pseudomonas infections in catfish, use 1-2 bolus per kg of feed for 5-7 days or 5-7 bolus per pond decimal for 3-4 days.

Ciprofloxacin Syrup:

• Poultry: Administer 1 ml per 1-2 litres of drinking water for 3-5 days to treat diseases like infectious coryza and mycoplasmosis.
• Dogs and Cats: Follow the veterinarian’s prescribed dosage based on the animal’s condition and weight.

Oral Solution:

• Poultry: For treatment, use 1 ml per 1-2 litres of water for 3-5 days. For prevention, use 1 ml per 4-8 litres of water for 3 days.

Warnings & Precautions

Although Cipro-A Vet is highly effective, it may cause crystalluria. Therefore, it is important to ensure that animals remain hydrated during treatment. Additionally, use it cautiously in animals with severe renal or hepatic impairment to avoid drug accumulation. Finally, Cipro-A Vet should not be used in pregnant or lactating cows.

Side Effects

The most common side effects include anorexia and vomiting. However, some animals may experience rare side effects such as hypersensitivity reactions, dizziness, or central nervous system (CNS) stimulation. If these occur, consult a veterinarian immediately.

Drug Interactions For Cipro-A Vet:

Cipro-A Vet may interact with several medications, including aminoglycosides, third-generation cephalosporins, and extended-spectrum penicillins. Additionally, it may increase the blood levels of theophylline and enhance the effects of warfarin. Be aware that products containing magnesium, calcium, or iron can reduce the absorption of Ciprofloxacin when taken together.
